About Tom’s Cabin

Relax, you’ve just found a great Cape holiday spot!

Just 35 minutes from the centre of Cape Town, Simon’s Town is a place of pristine beaches, warm waters, fynbos-covered mountains and abundant bird life. The beautiful False Bay coastline of the Cape Peninsula is home to this historic naval village of cobbled lanes and quaint stone cottages, along with plenty of restaurants and shops.

Wood-clad Tom’s Cabin is a peaceful self-catering house-by-the-sea, close to the village, beaches and Table Mountain National Park. With views of nearby False Bay and the Hottentot Hollands Mountains in the distance, this fully equipped, single-storey, three-bedroom, two-bathroom house is spacious, comfortable and tastefully decorated, and can accommodate up to seven people. Special touches are everywhere, from luxury percale bed linen to a bottle of wine and a guest basket of chocolates upon arrival, and for those who want to stay connected, Wi-Fi is available.

With so much to see and do right on its doorstep and much more just minutes away by car, Tom’s Cabin is a perfect base from which to explore the entire Cape Peninsula. Whether you’re a family or group of friends, keen to swim and suntan, surf, hike, cycle or even shark-dive, or prefer to enjoy the sea view from the cosy lounge, Tom’s Cabin is just the get-away you want it to be.

  • Tom’s Cabin Sed ut perspiciatis unde

Set on a hillside overlooking False Bay, the home is surrounded by a large lawn and garden. Enjoy the sea view from the patio over tea, or cocktails and a braai (traditional South African barbeque). An easily accessible driveway off the street leads to secure off-street parking.

  • Main Entrance Sed ut perspiciatis unde

The front door opens onto the spacious split-level living and dining area, with a cosy lounge complete with sweeping sea views. Just three steps above are the dining room and kitchen. Tasteful furnishings make guests feel right at home.

  • Sea Views Sed ut perspiciatis unde

The sprawling lawn and indigenous garden, rich with sunbirds and other birdlife, face the sea and rugged boulders of the False Bay coastline. Frank’s Bay and Windmill Beaches are just a short walk down the road.

The Area

Want to hobnob with penguins, stand at the most south-westerly point of Africa or eat freshly caught Cape fish and seafood? Tom’s Cabin is close to many top Cape Town attractions, a few of which are the beloved colony of African Penguins on Boulders Beach, Cape Point Nature Reserve with its breathtaking vistas, hiking trails and wildlife, and historic Simon’s Town.

The village, with its long association with both British and South African naval forces, has a charming and unique character, with gracious old homes and its own harbour. When it comes to eating, you are spoiled for choice. Whether you want fish and chips, prawns, a full English breakfast or just an espresso with freshly baked pastry, there are well over a dozen restaurants, cafes and pubs to choose from in Simon’s Town alone, as well as interesting shops and boutiques to browse.

Nature is everywhere you turn, as is adventure. Sea kayaking, scuba diving, hiking, surfing, golf, shark cage diving – they’re all here. From the majestic Table Mountain Range to magnificent beaches and sea, it’s paradise for nature lovers, even if you never leave Tom’s Cabin.

  • “What a superb place to stay in winter.  We were nice and warm and loved the sunny days alongside the blustery ones.  So many great things to do with the kids including submarine tours, horse riding, pirate ships and the most amazing backdrop to everything. We had superb meals in Pescado’s, Kirstenbosch, Dunes and The Brass Bell in Kalk Bay. We were well rested in the warm and comfy beds. The top treat was a mother and calf Southern Right Whale coming right into the bay in front of the house – a treasured moment we will never forget!  We will be sure to recommend Tom’s Cabin to friends who visit – thank you for sharing this special place with us and for your care and attention during our stay.”
